Reductil (sibutramine) is a prescription drug intended for people battling obesity without particular success. It is supposed to be taken under the supervision of your health care provider and you need to make sure you are also following a diet and observing the recommendations of your doctor concerning physical activities. If you just take this medication it will not help you to lose weight. Instead, make sure you combine it with a healthier diet and regular exercise. Reductil can form a strong habit especially in people with a history of such a reaction to this medicine. This is why you are not supposed to take this medication in larger amounts of more often than recommended by your doctor. Your doctor needs to know everything about any drugs you are taking at the moment or have been taking recently, such as sleeping pills, medications for depression, medications for allergies, coughs and colds, high blood pressure medications, anticoagulants, tranquilizers, antifungals, sedatives, SSRIs, monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors, caffeine-containing products, SNRIs, sulfa antibiotics, HIV protease inhibitors, and migraine headache drugs.
During the first 4 months of the treatment the expected minimal weight loss is supposed to be 4 pounds. If your weight loss is less than that, talk to your doctor about a dose adjustment. The dose that you have been originally prescribed is not supposed to be adjusted during the first month of the treatment anyway, so follow all the recommendations of your health care provider to make sure you benefit from the treatment and will not suffer from any serious side effects. To avoid gaining weight again you need to continue the treatment for as long as recommended by your health care provider. You may notice that you have stopped losing weight, but that should not prevent you from taking Reductil further on. Unless your health care provider tells you to do so, you are not supposed to stop. Mild side effects are normal and you do not have to report them to the health care provider that prescribed this medicine unless they begin to seriously interfere you’re your everyday life. Flushing, heartburn, insomnia, flu-like symptoms, headache, runny nose, dry mouth, weakness, back pain, change in appetite, and constipation are a few ones that need to be mentioned.
